چکیده

Adaptive optics (AO) is a technology used to improve the performance of optical systems by reducing the effect of wavefront distortions. It is used in astronomical telescopes and laser communication systems to remove the effects of atmospheric distortion. An AO system basically consists of three main components, a wavefront sensor, a wavefront corrector and a control system. A new wavefront sensor based on polarization shearing interferometry technique has been developed and studied. The necessary theory for shearing interferometry has been developed. Simulations of the interferometric records were carried out for the study of various aberrations in an optical system and the effect of noise and atmospheric turbulence in the interferograms. This paper describes a comparative study of Shack Hartmann Wavefront Sensor (SH-WS) and Polarization Shearing Interferometry Wavefront Sensor (PSI-WS). The statistical analyses of the experimental data are also presented.

An Interferometric Hartmann Wavefront Analyzer for the 6.5m MMT, and the First Results for Collimation and Figure Correction

The theory, optical, mechanical, and software design for an interferometric Hartmann wavefront analyzer for the 6.5 m MMT is presented. The instrument is modular so it can be used at the prime focus or any of the three unique Cassegrain foci. We discuss the first results at the f/9 Cass focus where the detected wavefront error was used to correct both collimation and the primary mirror figure d...

Wavefront-sensor-based electron density measurements for laser-plasma accelerators.

Characterization of the electron density in laser produced plasmas is presented using direct wavefront analysis of a probe laser beam. The performance of a laser-driven plasma-wakefield accelerator depends on the plasma wavelength and hence on the electron density. Density measurements using a conventional folded-wave interferometer and using a commercial wavefront sensor are compared for diffe...

Interferometric focusing of guide-stars for direct wavefront sensing

Optical microscopy allows noninvasive imaging of biological tissues at a subcellular level. However, the optimal performance of the microscope is hard to achieve because of aberrations induced from tissues. The shallow penetration depth and degraded resolution provide a limited degree of information for biologists. In order to compensate for aberrations, adaptive optics with direct wavefront se...

On numerical simulation of high-speed CCD/CMOS-based wavefront sensors for adaptive optics

Wavefront sensors, which use solid-state CCD or CMOS photosensors, are sources of errors in adaptive optic systems. Inaccuracy in the detection of wavefront distortions introduces considerable errors into wavefront reconstruction and leads to overall performance degradation of the adaptive optics system. The accuracy of wavefront sensors is significantly affected by photosensor noise. Thus, it ...

Ultrafast Fabry-Perot fiber-optic pressure sensors for multimedia blast event measurements.

A shock wave (SW) is characterized as a large pressure fluctuation that typically lasts only a few milliseconds. On the battlefield, SWs pose a serious threat to soldiers who are exposed to explosions, which may lead to blast-induced traumatic brain injuries. SWs can also be used beneficially and have been applied to a variety of medical treatments due to their unique interaction with tissues a...
